As people started writing their
obituaries for this man's directorial ventures, here he comes back, with the
energy and zeal he had, he has and he always will. Mani Ratnam proves why he is
called a 'cut above the rest'.
Getting the cast spot on, Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menon give a
knockout punch for Mani's critics. Every frame seemed to have the same energy,
start to end. Though it doesn't take him a lot to bring a tear to the
audience's eye, I believe the director has taken a lot of efforts to make this
movie a light hearted entertainer.
Mani
Ratnam has flawlessly portrayed today's love, juxtaposing it with that of the
relationship between Prakash Raj and Leela Samson. I loved the way PC Sreeram
shot the scenes where Adi and Tara, a young living together couple, see through
the open doorway and learn the meaning of togetherness from the older couple.
It
was fun filled movie with the nuances that only the man named Mani Ratnam can capture
in terms of romance and on screen chemistry. He explored the life of two
individuals and the life they wished to lead in a city like Mumbai. Introducing
Ganapathy as a stern individual and the way he accepts Adi and Tara to live in
his house, probably hinting at the way the past generation is forced to accept
the youth of today.
Nithya
Menen overshadows Dulquer Salman when it come to the performance. Cheerful, bubbly
and full of energy she was probably the best that Mani Ratnam could have got
for the role. Shooting monuments on her Ipad, Adi comes in the way.... And the
smile that she offers.. Priceless!! Its not any bombastic praise for Mani
Ratnam, but I honestly believe that his films represent romance and
relationships like nothing else... The classic Iruvar, Nayagan and Thalapathy
to the modern OK Kanmani..A father and a child, two friends or a couple.. You
just can't match this director's class in his intricate representation of
relationships. You just feel like smiling!
I
loved the scene when Tara takes Adi to the hospital... Just loved the way the
expression changing in Dulquer Salman's face, asking "Kanaku ellam correct
a thaane irunthudhu", in the end to find out that Tara was asked to design
the new hospital. Leela Samson was perfect for Prakash Raj's wife and loved her
witty remarks... Every scene had something to make us laugh with no person to
add on to the cast. Proves Mani's genius, yet again!!
Mani
Ratnam doesn't give a wrong message too. As the two young people explore their
relationships to find out they fall for each other, the director leaves an indirect
message to today's youth that marriage is indeed a beautiful journey!! He also
appeals to everybody that in search of fun and love, never let go of your
careers in the scene where Adi says " Kalyaanum panitu Paris po".The
scene where Adi and Tara go in search of Bhavani was a beautiful one!! They
were going in search of Ganapathy's lost love and in the process, discovering
the love they had for each other. As they both fight with each other, Adi says,
" Naanum nalla pathupen"... It was romance and love, redefined the
Mani Ratnam style!!!
Oh
have I left anyone!! Oh my god!!ARR!! You are truly magical!! You find these
tunes along with the director and Vairamuthu!! I wondered why Mani Sir picked
A.R.Ameen's song and remember Rahman quoting that he had planned to release it
separately and how Mani sir said "I will put it somewhere in the
movie". He did justice to that song!! How he blends songs to the storyline
is amazing! PC Sreeram as usual gives his stunning visuals to the songs!
Who
said this man has an end!! He has regained his touch!! OK Kanmani... A
beautiful romance!
